Chicago-based AMSTED® Industries was founded in 1902 as American Steel Foundries, the result of combining eight foundries in the East and Midwest, the earliest being the Solid Steel Company dating to 1882. American Steel Foundries and Keystone, Industries merged in January 2001. The company was renamed as ASF-Keystone, Incorporated which is a leading supplier of cast steel components to the railroad freight car and locomotive industry not only in North America, but throughout the world. In addition, ASF-Keystone also designs and manufactures fifth wheels for the highway truck industry and hot wound coils for the construction and agricultural machinery markets.

The ASF-Keystone general office is located in Granite City, Illinois. ASF-Keystone's four manufacturing locations include cast steel foundries in Granite City, Illinois;,and Alliance, Ohio; a hot wound coil spring manufacturing facility in Hammond, Indiana. and a end of car parts facility in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. These facilities develop and produce products that increase customers' operating efficiency, reduce the component life-cycle cost of their rolling stock and enhance their competitive position in the transportation market place.

From its earliest days, ASF-Keystone was interested in more than pouring steel into the shape desired by the customer. It wished to contribute to the design of the product, thereby creating a safer, more economical and durable product. Product innovations are perfected by testing, which duplicates years of actual service, at our company's premier engineering test laboratory in Granite City, Illinois.

Today, ASF-Keystone continues to distinguish itself with industry leadership in engineering expertise, product innovations and commitment to the industry through its multi-million dollar investment in plant and manufacturing processes, quality improvements and environmental safeguards. A new, highly automated core line at its Granite City facility produces high quality cores resulting in improved castings, while a new coiler at its Hammond facility turns steel bars into custom hot wound coil springs. These are a few of the quality initiatives ASF-Keystone has undertaken to better serve its customer partners.
